Negotiating new working hours?

I would love your tips on how to negotiate new working hours.

The reason I want to reduce my hours is so I can take on another job and work both jobs. The new job is better paid, will help me get new experience, but is only 2 days per week so I cannot give up my old job completely as I won't have enough income.

However I can't do both jobs on the hours I currently do.

I know my current employer won't want me to reduce hours as we are already stretched.

Given your last sentence, I can't see why they would want to agree. But are you actually allowed to do that - some employers won't allow an employee to work elsewhere without their agreement.

Your request appears, based on what you say, to be a problem. Employers don't like problems. Do you have a solution to offer them that makes this positive for them?

Not really no. All I have as leverage really is to threaten to leave. Which is obviously risky. I've been a loyal employee for several years, they've been a great employer. I guess it depends how much they value me and my happiness!
