Becoming swimming teacher

Hello,

I am after some advice

I recently decided to make a big move and have a career change (to do something totally different from what I was doing). Essentially I decided to become a swimming teacher, preferably baby and preschool.
I completed STA teaching babies and preschoolers and now I signed up for STA lever 2 award in teaching swimming. I am based in North West and I m looking for something that would give me work life balance and I struggle.

Does anyone have any advice where/how to look for the job? I signed up for Facebook website that focuses on job positions etc.

What else can I get some experience?

Thanks,
J

Do you mean to work as a swimming teacher? Swim is a big company round here.

Julietta05 · 12/05/2023 22:05

Yes, that is what I meant.

I will look into it. Thank you

What about a company like puddle ducks or water babies?

Council website for leisure centre roles

Where in the north west are you looking?

The pay in Council run leisure centres is very low OP, including swimming teachers.

I don't want to be negative but I have noticed that most swimming teachers have to work weekends and after school - school time hours are v popular - most lessons are outside of that time. So what do you mean by work life balance ?

I live in Wigan

Well I get what you mean. I don't mind working 2-3 evenings a week but I was hoping for Babies and Preschoolers swimming courses which are mainly weekdays daytime.

Surely just google baby swimming classes in your area to see who the main companies are offering it… then approach them directly about jobs? I don’t know how it works but perhaps covering for regular teachers would get a foot in the door? Or I think people start their own swim schools if the demand is there.
