4 months ago I went from assistant manager to manager, stupidly I didn't agree a payrise beforehand. At my 3 month appraisal I was told it wasn't long enough and will be re assessed in 6 months then maybe a 1k increase. The added stress is just not worthwhile. They have employed a junior who is to be fully trained up to cover when I'm off but he is struggling to grasp things and frequently makes mistakes making things more difficult. They would struggle to find another manager but not sure if that's my problem, can I chose to go back to assistant manager ?

No you can't choose to go to another job. The employer can allow you to, but they don't have to.

So I should put a request in writing? I was hoping they would then offer a payrise but I realise it may backfire but as the pay isn't much different it doesn't really matter.
