NHS pay offer - what happens if I leave? He

Hello,

27 years of service in the NHS. I’m through to the final stage of interviewing outside of the NHS. Obviously, more £££. What happens if I leave the NHS and a pay deal is struck between unions and government? Would I still get back pay if I left?

Just wondering.

Not if you leave before the pay award hits payslips.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 26/04/2023 18:55

I think you'd be eligible for both, wouldn't you? It just seems entirely unfair otherwise.

I thought the point was that you had to be employed on 31/03/2023, and that you'd be eligible for it if you were.

Government pay negotiations are regularly agreed upon after the due date. Those still employed get back pay in their next pay statement and into their bank, those who have already left get the back pay into their bank

LuckOfTheDrawer · 26/04/2023 19:23

Thanks @tommika, I've definitely got skin in this game 😄😅.

Ypu are still entitled to it but you may have to request it, it depends how your organisation handles it

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 26/04/2023 19:25

You are still entitled to it however if you left three months before the award is paid you'll probably have to request it.

FortyFacedFuckers · 26/04/2023 19:28

Yes the NHS board I work for will give you it but you have to contact them to request it

TulipsandButterflies · 26/04/2023 22:42

Ok, thanks all. I’ll see if I am offered the job first but, if I leave, I will speak to payroll and request the back pay.

Wow! I did not know that.

Hi. I left nhs England 7th March23, I joined nhs Wales. I missed my consolidated pay, and fell through a loop hole. I had to be employed as at 31 march 23 in nhs England. In Wales it was calculated on how much you worked during 2223 so I got backpack from 7th til 31st only. I felt this was completely unfair, got in touch with union they didn't do anything.
Been in nhs 19 years. I would have adjusted my start date by a week if I'd have known.
