Moving abroad with children

Anyone moved abroad for 1/2 years and taken young dc with them? Did it have a negative effect? Did they settle back once you returned?

We were abroad for 4 years.
I think it's done a great job of broadening their outlook. Their global Geography is pretty good. We had to work really hard on their UK Geography when we got back. That would obviously depend on where you went tho.
The only one who suffered was me, wo hasn't got back in to a career since we returned.
Kids were primary age the whole time.
