Please can someone confirm this is correct?

Working pattern per week= 28 hours Mon-Thu
Full time working pattern= 35 hours Mon-Fri

Full time holiday entitlement= 175 hours plus 56 hours bank holiday entitlement.

Is the part time worker entitled to 80% of 175 hours and 80% of the 56 hours bank holiday entitlement?

Thank you very much. Trying to get my head round what HR are saying.

Yes

devildeepbluesea · 13/04/2023 09:45

Yes that’s right.

Obviously depends what the employment contract says but yes, IME this is increasingly how employers deal with both holiday and bank holidays. Much simpler that figuring out working patterns that include do or don’t include Mondays and fairer I think.

What have they said that’s confusing you?

Bankholidayquery · 13/04/2023 09:50

@BarbaraWoodlouse Six months into a new role... would rather this had been made clear at the start! If it's correct then fine.

I see. Yes that’s poor. Unfortunately not all HR departments are good at understanding or communicating these things.

It can definitely be confusing. I’m nearly 30 years into a career managing people and big financial contracts and have had to send a request for help and advice on my latest set up as I am stuck on something.

I suspect it was a shock if you just had to use two unexpected holiday days for last weekend but if you look at the overall numbers it should feel fair?

Bankholidayquery · 13/04/2023 10:04

Yes, I think when I add up all the hours entitlement and divide it by a working week it's equivalent to a full time entitlement in terms of weeks, so phew!

I hope your problem is able to be resolved soon!

You still get the same proportion of holidays compared to full time staff. So full time staff get 25 days standard plus 8 days bank holiday which is 6.6 weeks worth of holiday.

You get 6.6 weeks x 28 hours = 184.8 hours

Your only issue will be that you need to use quite a bit of your holidays for the bank holiday Mondays giving you less choice of when to take the rest of your holidays.

Thanks @dementedpixie - luckily they've also now clarified that I can work BH and take the leave another day, thankfully

I’ve had staff in this situation I’ve been very flexible about them either working the BH or doing tue-Fri some weeks. One of my team does tue -Thurs to avoid this.
