Job offer situation

DP had an interview about a month ago for a job and didn’t get it. It’s in the city I live in which he wants to move back to.
He was then offered a job he took an hour away which had decent enough pay and was the step up in role he wanted. He’s been there for 2 weeks.

Now the place he interviewed for said there’s been a change and have offered him a chat about a job there.
It would suit us better but how does he word an email reply that says he took another job but if they can guarantee the role level is the same and if the pay is good enough he would leave his current job for this one?

I would just agree to have a chat and see what they offer, he can then mention his expectations if an offer is forthcoming

He doesn't need to do that yet. Meet them and discuss that his circumstances have changed but he is still very much interested and then let them do the offering or suggesting of the job role and sound them out. I’m speaking as someone who has just left a role after 4 weeks to move to another company with more favourable terms and conditions.

You don’t have to write any of that in an email. A chat is a chat, he doesn’t owe them anything and he can agree to it and then tell them on the call or in person once they offer him the position, if that is their intention.

Please don’t say what AlisonDonut has suggested, that is excruciating. Just go for the chat, he can discuss position and salary at the right time, which is not upon answering an email about meeting up.

Thanks for the replies. He’s responded now and will discuss with them later in the week. :)
