Apprentice being made redundant

My son started an apprenticeship in August last year. He has been told that he is being made redundant by his employer at the end of the month. We have emailed and phoned his college for advice but I think they are closed for the Easter holiday.

The government website says “The government will fund your apprenticeship training for at least 12 weeks following redundancy to give you time to find alternative employment so that you can continue with your apprenticeship”.

Does anyone know how this support works? Will the college find him another employer? Will he be paid at all? My son is understandably anxious as he is very keen to continue with the apprenticeship.

Thanks

Apprenticeships are very hard to find. He can certainly do lots of the donkey work now. Sending emails, applying for things. Looking what's available.

I've employed a few apprentices - it's down to the college to try and find him another placement, but there are no guarantees at this point.

Thanks. We are looking but as you say, not many apprenticeships available at the moment

This happened to the son of someone I know.
They appealed on SM and had a new Apprenticeship within days, is that an option for you or does it have to go via college?

Does he know who any of the others at college are working for? Could he approach them. How much longer until he qualifies?

Thanks for your advice, SM is a good idea.

We are hoping that the college can link him up with another employer. His course has another 18 months to go.

Does anyone know what the 12 week support means? Will he be able to continue going to college whilst he finds another job?

Thanks for all replies
