Leaving company - delete emails?

I have just under a week left in my job.
When i leave my accounts will be deleted anyway, as will everything on the laptop and my personal Home Drive (we all have one, nobody else, not even IT have access)

What would be the sensible thing? delete all my emails? leave them and just delete anything personal (HR stuff, appraisal stuff - i have already printed and forwarded the necessaries)

What about the drive? should i just delete anyway? any useful files that people I've handed over to have been transferred to a shared drive so they can access them.

Am seriously enjoying Inbox Zero every bloody day tho!

I'd delete all of the personal stuff but leave everything else/forward on emails to relevant people before you leave. If they need anything, then IT can access your account and try to find what they need.

I'm saying this as someone who quite likes the people I work with, though. If I didn't and was feeling a bit petty, I'd likely just delete everything 🙈

Just delete the personal emails - and also delete from your deleted items folder.
I wouldn't delete all work related emails or files on the drive.

I rarely have personal emails in my email account - deleted emails (and files) can be retrieved from backups.

Your accounts are likely to be made inactive - not deleted as such, or someone else would be given access to your accounts so they can log on and check emails if required. Someone may have your mailbox added to their account.

In a previous role I relied heavily on previous emails and files - I was able to log into the person's account and search for missing data (nothing was saved to the cloud). When I left that role, I started to delete irrelevant emails in my own inbox - but left about 16,000 emails as they could be used as a 'paper trail' for my replacement.

I cleaned up some of the files on the server, so I didn't leave a mess behind. All essential files/procedures I emailed off, and also directed them to where they were stored on the server.

If you've definitely passed on everything necessary, and saved or removed anything personal, then I would delete everything else.
As you say, it'll be wiped at some point anyway, but for me it's a psychological clearing up. Leaving a job clean and tidy means your mind is clear too.

Does your company not have a policy on what to do? I'd delete anything private/personal and the rest should get tan Ed n care of when they wipe it.

MiniFig · 31/03/2023 11:19

there doesn't seem to be a policy, i have suggested they make one :)

I have some personal emails in that, when i resigned there was a bit of to and from about how much of my bonus was due, how many days of leave and so on, those I'll fwd to my private then delete.
Everything else I'll leave.
