Leaving my job

First project management job, charity sector, haven't been enjoying it due to difficult staff, issues with company etc. Been doing it for about 1.5 years. Funding for our project comes to an end soon but we have secured new funding to start a new project.

I know I'll just be transferred over if I want to be to get the new project set up. But I've had so many issues with the people and the organisation that I just don't want to manage a new project. I want to leave.

WIBU to just hand in my resignation and finish this job when this project ends, and say I don't want to be involved in the new project?

I can afford to have a month or two out of work if need be.

Would this reflect badly on me if I apply for new jobs and I have been out of work for a couple of months? Could I just say 'project ended' as the reason?

I did project contractual work for a spell (with gaps) which lead to questions in interviews. When I explained I got, “Ah, I understand “ type comments then it was dropped.

Got a new perm job recently after 4 month gap - fully WFH so I’m very happy with that!
