Hi everyone. Following the job offer at council, I am completing the medical declaration from occupational health to check whether i am fit for the job. One of the questions is whether i am pregnant and i am reluctant to say yes. I found out that I am 8 weeks pregnant now by a private scan even though my midwife said i was just 4-5 weeks So I had no idea that i was pregnant during the interview. My question is whether i should tell them i am pregnant or wait until i have the 12 weeks scan with nhs. Is it possible that they withdraw the job offer because i am early pregnant? Thoughts please!!!

You don’t have to tell them just now however they would be extremely foolish to withdraw the job offer as it would look like discrimination on the face of it. However if you don’t tell them they won’t be able to do the appropriate risk assessment for you.

Because I have not signed the contract yet and I was advised not to resign from my current job until they have done the reference check, I am afraid that if I tell them now they could use any silly reasons to withdraw the job offer. I know it’s quite more secured when it comes to job offer from county council but who knows. I really want this job so I really don’t know whether not telling them is better.

Just pretend you don't know you're pregnant yet and tell them once you've got all of the paperwork signed.

I would wait for the 12 week scan
