Excel course - CPD certified?

My employer is paying for me to go on an Advanced Excel course. I've been given free reign on which one I want to go on.

I've seen a few that I like. My only question is, am I better off going for a CPD certified course?

The ones that are delivered with a live tutor will probably be more engaging, but none of them come with CPD accreditation. All the ones with CPD accreditations seem to be virtual tutor courses where you work through it yourself in your own time.

I'm edging towards the virtual one more for the sake of the certificate, but does it really matter?

I would probably go for the certificate too, but I think it depends how confident you are with excel, and if you can follow along a video course, or if you learn better by asking questions live? I'm an advanced user, but still sometimes Google stuff, so most answers can be found as long as you have enough base knowledge to know its possible.

A certificate is nice if you change jobs and can show it to a new employer, but you can equally talk about your skills.

I suppose if you have a qualification that needs cpd you could add the excel course for that?

I don’t think it really matters. Not every company uses excel, so the accreditation may not always be relevant. Just choose whatever method of learning works for you. In my experience, excel is used in conjunction with coding software or business information software. It’s like the 1st step. So being a master of excel only takes you so far, being a master of eg Power BI or Python is what will look impressive. Not CPD
