Why is it so hard to get a job in a supermarket?

I have been working in retail for four years in fast food and I would like to have a change. A month or so ago I managed to get an interview at tesco for a bakery role but they didn't clearly put the times on the job advertisement and thus it was too early for me. Thus I didnt get the job. Am I screwed from getting jobs in tesco now because of it ?

doesn’t their application form have tick boxes as to the hours you are available & the hours they need you to do in the role?

Anyway, no, it doesn’t mean you can’t ever get a job there. I’ve known people apply a couple of times and then get in, it really depends on if you are a fit for the role they have in mind I think and who else they are interviewing. Keep trying -good luck!

Keep applying, the bakery role wasn't for you but they'll be other roles in other departments.

At my local Tesco you have to work either a Saturday or Sunday shift, if you don't agree you can't work there. I guess other supermarkets/branches will have different rules.

I worked at Asda for a while. The interview process was a bit daft tbh. Got us all in a room to make towers out of straws and toilet.rolls etc.

Aldi was a bit ridiculous imo. I went for a job there, got an interview etc. They expected all employees to be available from 6am - midnight and they'd rota you on within those hours.
I told them I had a kid, childcare runs 8am - 6pm and they said they couldn't guarantee I'd only ever get those hours.

It was my experience that the only people doing well in retail were the ones willing to make their entire life and identity about working there. no thank you.
