I have been working at my current job for 5 years this year.

I left March 2022 on maternity leave with the view of having a full year off with my daughter.

Since having my little girl. My health has deteriorated and I really cannot see myself being able to return to work - it is a very busy environment and I cannot see my health allowing it.

I am currently using up my annual leave before returning and have been given a return date for mid April.

My plan is to get a sick note from my GP and use those for a few weeks and then hopefully leave on the sick.

I am worried I will be asked to work any notice needed. Can this happen when you get a sick note? Will it work as smoothly as just asking to be let go whilst on the sick?

I am getting so anxious as the time gets closer

Any help/words will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Sam

I did similar. Went on Mat leave, took sick time from the time thatI was due to return, then eventually left, whilst still being signed off.

Does your company claw back mat pay if you leave before a certain timescale? I.e. If I had left 3 months after the end of my mat leave, they would've made me pay back X amount of mat pay. If I'd left after 6 months from the end of mat leave, I would've had to pay back Y amount of mat pay.

Hi, thank you so much for replying.

I only recieved statutory maternity pay after the initial 6 weeks at 90% so I believe I don't have to pay anything back luckily.

I can't get in to see my GP until 2 weeks after my return date!! So I'm hoping to try and get a sick note via the online portal and maybe give it in a week earlier so they've had a bit of notice rather than giving it in on the day I'm due back. I'm anxious about creating a bit of an atmosphere and being moaned at!

Thanks again
