I’ve been at my current company for around a year. Since starting I have had my eye on a lateral move which wouldn’t be unusual for my position. However, an opportunity for promotion came up and I was encouraged to apply and was successful. It’s been less than 6 months and it’s all going well, I’m enjoying it and doing well.
Recently, a couple of new roles have emerged which are in the area I plan to move into. Ordinarily, I would wait it out and give my current role a few years first, but I’ve been asked if I am interested in applying for the new position.
Current role is people focussed which I enjoy, with some further growth but then probably stagnates or requires some creativity to much further forward. There is scope to get involved in similar tasks to the new role, but it is/would be adhoc on top of my role, but could eventually become a very similar role, if I didn’t want to just progress upward. This is something that I am already working on in my current department.
The new role, is totally new in a new department (overuse of the word new). I have the skill set, I have enough experience in a similar industry was really excited when I heard this dept was launching. This role has huge scope as currently there would be one person doing it but other departments have 4-5 people doing various aspects of the role. There are lots of management opportunities and the sky really is the limit. It would move me to a very different part of the business though which I would miss.
Grade wise it is on a par with my current one.
I feel very lucky to be asked.
I have a coffee with the hiring manager tomorrow and it is my own manager who has approached me, because she has been asked if anyone in our team would be interested.
