NHS Scotland question: "National post"?

Looking at a vacancy on the NHS Scotland website. The location is listed at the top as "Edinburgh/Glasgow". In the main description it says that it's a "national post" that is flexible with hybrid working.

What does "national post" mean, in this case?

I think (but not 100%) it means working for NHS Scotland rather than a health board such as NHS Tayside/Lothian or whatever. So supporting Scotland-wide services such national screening programmes, digital services, procurement etc

Thank you so much - that makes sense! So when it has the location as Edinburgh/Glasgow/Hybrid/Homeworking, is that likely to mean that you have to work at both Edinburgh and Glasgow at different times, or that you can pick your preference? There isn't any specific mention of travel in the job or person specification.

They have offices in Edinburgh and pretty sure Glasgow too. I expect it means you can choose either as your base, and then hybrid working from there. Or may be potential for fully remote depending on the role.

It would say if there was travel involved.
Good luck with your application

It should tell you the employing board in the advert. Boards like NSS, Public Health Scotland etc have offices in different cities with a lot of roles being able to done on a hybrid basis, choosing your preferred location.

If you want you can tell me the vacancy number I could have a look and tell you where there offices are.

Thank you! The job (ref 131861) says:
Employer (NHS Board) : NHS National Services Scotland
Department: NHS Scotland Assure (Sub Dept)

National Services Scotland have their Edinburgh offices are at Gyle Square, the Glasgow offices are currently at Cadogan Street but moving to St Vincent street in the summer.

You should be able to choose what suits you best and then wfh as well. A lot of people in NSS work from home most of the time with just the occasional visit to the office as suits but can do more if preferred.

Good luck with your application.

That is amazingly helpful! Thank you very much!

You're welcome.

If you're interested in more of those sorts of posts with working from home/hybrid I'd take a look at jobs with these health boards as well.

Once you've applied for one post it's straightforward to apply for others - your application details carry forward, you then just need to update your personal statement to suit.
