How busy are you?

Which industry do you work in and how busy are you lately?

The company I work for (digital media/web/comms agency) is quiet at the moment. There are rumours of redundancies coming. Friends in similar companies say the same.

Wondering if this is industry-specific or a sign of the ailing economy....

OP posts:

That matches with something I heard yesterday about digital OP - large companies have a recruitment freeze on and it's now dropping through to SMEs.

I don't work in digital or recruitment but I'm involved in recruiting people into entry level digital jobs, and it's proving impossible.

NHS ward manager: feel like I do the job of 2 people all the time. Relentless and unachievable workload all the time!

Thank you

GobbieMaggie · 07/03/2023 07:01

ICU NHS, we’ve always been “busy”, 24/7.

JennyDarlingRIP · 07/03/2023 07:03

Criminal justice, absolutely overwhelmed. Understaffed, workload increasing through the roof, risk profile of offenders also on the increase. Dealing with the fall out of mental health services and housing providers in the same situation not able to cope with the demand.

Clinical Nutritionist specialising in Metabolic Syndrome and Autoimmune Diseases (obesity, PCOS, Diabetes, MS, Hashimoto’s etc.)

We’re slammed and have a 9 month waiting list. People are unwell.

I work in data protection for a large insurance company. Personally I'm only moderately busy as my work seems to come in peaks and troughs, but the company I work for is booming.

Toomanybooks22 · 07/03/2023 07:12

I work in data protection and it's really busy in the public sector

hinterkitten · 07/03/2023 07:20

Higher education- very busy

Livebythecoast · 07/03/2023 07:40

Respite and rehabilitation care centre. Extremely busy....hospitals discharging patients well enough but not able to go home due to either needing physio/OT input, waiting for care packages at home or unsuitable living conditions to go home to.

Roselilly36 · 07/03/2023 07:45

Web based, niche industry, very busy.

MinnieMountain · 07/03/2023 07:48

Conveyancing. Getting busier.

EsmeShelby · 07/03/2023 07:52

NHS. Really, really busy.

RocketIceLollie · 07/03/2023 07:59

Architecture technician. Mostly private residential drawing work. Six week lead-in time at the moment.

Whyisitsososohard · 07/03/2023 08:03

Cultural sector. Very busy. But it's free provision mainly with a social impact so not relying on ticket sales. We're always trying to do lots with very little money though!

Soproudoflionesses · 07/03/2023 08:05

Education...very busy all the time

Nw22 · 07/03/2023 08:06

Civil servant. Feel like I’m doing the job of at least 2 people.

Two charities, one a paid job and the other as a volunteer, and busier than ever.

I could have written this! I'm just about keeping my head above water at work but I have so much to do, as do all of my 3rd sector colleagues, especially as we have unfilled vacancies. Underpaid and overworked, if I didn't love it so much I would have quit years ago! But it's a lovely place to work and it's amazing to make a difference so we keep going...

Thinkwicebeforeyouleavemylife · 07/03/2023 08:07

Property lettings. Mentally busy, and it's only going to get busier in the summer. Lots of unhappy tenants, and landlords selling up.

woodlandtrees · 07/03/2023 08:08

Social care. F@@king manic !!!

Rollersea · 07/03/2023 08:23

University lecturer in the health sector, it's usually peaks and troughs but has been peaks constantly for around 12 months

Ladyglittersparkleseriously · 07/03/2023 08:28

Academic. Very busy, we've had a recruitment freeze for the last few years and my workload is now completely unmanageable!

JewelLane · 07/03/2023 08:35

Local government - education. Impossible. Budget cuts to local authorities means we are all doing the job of three!
12 hour days, travel across a large area, less and less time to write up reports. Impact on annual leave, having to work through it to catch up.
The team of staff supporting schools and SEND used to be over 100. There are now 18.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 07/03/2023 08:42

Also travel in a H/O role. We're very busy, we had recorded breaking January and February sales so not being hit yet. We're the higher end of the market so it seems that people are cutting back elsewhere before giving up holidays.

cocksstrideintheevening · 07/03/2023 10:37

Commercial real estate, personally very busy because half the team got made redundant in covid and haven't been replaced. In the industry still plenty of activity maybe a little less investment but not noticeably so yet.
