4 day week

So, if you currently work a part time contract, and your company are considering a switch to a four day week for fill time day, in the same salary, what are the impacts?

The studies about 4 day weeks are really interesting. But wondering what will be the approach for those who are already on 0.8 contracts, when their colleagues switch to a 4 day week on effectively 100% pay?

Interested as a) I’m part time and b) it presents businesses with part time workers with a bit of a challenge.

I work 4 days (0.8) and genuinely think I do the same, if not more, work as my full time colleagues.

I think for companies moving to the 4 day model there are two options for current 0.8 staff:
A) increase their pay to match full time (20%) and keep them on 4 days.
B) keep their salary the same and decrease working hours by 20%.

Most companies who have made this move have offered their part time staff a choice of which option they would prefer (budget allowing).

Presumably it also affects other part time staff as well though. Staff working 3 days a week will now be 75% of full time not 60%. Staff who were working 50% will now be 62.5%. So I think companies doing this need to consider all part time staff not just those working 4 days.

@Invisimamma i was wondering how companies who have done this ready have tackled it. That’s interesting, thanks.

@ChessieFL yes I take your point. I was using the .80 as an example.

In my experience the people on 0.8 contracts do as much work as those on condensed hours over 4 days.

I think the challenge with 4 day weeks is ensuring enough cover which is an issue we have on Fridays with a significant proportion of the team not working on that day. Some issues do need an immediate response and the same people pick these up on Fridays as well as doing their share Monday to Thursday.
