Toastmasters- anyone a member?

Hi,
I'd like to improve my public speaking and also the ability to talk confidently when put on the spot! My job doesn't really require me to present frequently but I can be thrown into a last minute meeting with senior directors where I have to voice my opinion or share ideas which is something I struggle with when am unprepared. Considered joining toastmasters which is a public speaking/leadership group. My main worries is that I've heard its cheesy and it'll be a bunch of over confident speakers that like to show off :P
Thanks

I was years ago, in Australia!
Lovely bunch of people- very supportive. Via work I supported someone joining in London recently and they reported the same. You can go along and see.

Definitely do it. I did and met lots of lovely people and had great fun. I couldn't believe how much people's public speaking changed including my own. I found it to be a positive environment as well as a social spot. Worth giving it a go.

I'm curious about this. Do people join for a short time until they don't need any help or are they all long termers who are good at public speaking now? How does a session work?

Thanks Lamelie and junebirthdaygirl, sounds promising. I think il give it a go.

Swedishedith, I think its two sessions a month, from what ive read there will be people who will do speeches and get feedback and there's a table exercise where you're given a topic and talk about it on the spot. It's up to you if you want to deliver a speech and you attend when you want

My main worry would be getting too comfortable with the same group but am guessing they'll always be new people
