Hello, I am desperate to retrain. Locally to me we have very limited choice of further and higher education so it'll have to be something online based.

I have had a great career in Digital and Marketing Analytics but I've realised I love data and I love numbers.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of retraining formally? We don't even have "data" jobs near me (rural, backwards UK) but I am hoping to find a WFH role in the future which will fund moving to a better more sensible place.

I have a FdSc in Computer Science but struggling to even find a decent Top Up degree that'll suit. I'm intrigued by the Skills Bootcamps but trainers like Firebrand etc look a bit Del Boy.

Open University have been absolutely useless so far.

Any advice would be welcome!

Mid 30s and currently unemployed due to redundancy! So a great time to upskill

If you've already got a computer science degree, I doubt you need a whole new degree! How about filling some gaps with Coursera or Udemy then applying for jobs. Hopefully you'll get some feedback if you're not successful which will give you an idea of what next (or even better you will be successful! )

Thanks :) I dont want a whole new degree. But a good Top Up degree (or something) that'll turn my FdSc into a BSc.

My goal is to do a Masters in Health Data Science 😊 perhaps that's a goal for in my 40s

The feedback I get is that I'm not qualified enough. So I need to get that sorted before applying again and I feel like I'm going around in circles.

Try here to top-up: https://arden.ac.uk/our-courses/undergraduate/degree-top-ups/bsc-computing-top-up

Not the best quality provider, but online and would get you into an MSc in Health Analytics.

Are there any apprenticeship options near you? DH does have other qualifications at a higher level but not in data science so his work are paying for him to do his masters in data science through the apprenticeship levy. So he still gets paid but 1 day a week he does uni stuff instead.

Oooh very cool options!! We probably don't have apprenticeships nearby but I'm definitely keen to look.

Has anyone ever had experience with Arden?

I've enquired with Arden. 🤞🤞the only apprenticeships we have in the entire county

  1. hairdressing
  2. brick laying

That’s a shame, did you look on the gov.uk website? Just seems quite low. If you’ve seen a course you want to do, they often have a little bit of information or some testimonials about which employers hired their graduates or put their existing staff on the course. You could then put those employers on your list and sign up for vacancy alerts from them.
