Courage to quit

I am hating my job, despite it being well paid and flexible with wfh, just can’t get motivated anymore. I keep looking internally but nothing coming up. I am lucky that I work 4 days and that has kept me here for sometime as I doubt I would easily be able to find that elsewhere moving externally.

I have been here 12 years and done a number of roles but can’t really see where my next move could come from now. The company has had a big restructure with more to come so opportunities are limited. initially I was grateful I wasn’t affected but now I’m wishing I had been made redundant and given the push I neeed to move! Also, I feel like I’m hanging in for a redundancy payment that prob won’t happen (they never offer voluntary), but would be a significant payout of £50k. I need to forget about this don’t I and just make a move?

Just start looking.

Oh you sound so similar to me @ScandiNoirNuit !

It is really hard when your situation is 'good on paper'.

I have been wrestling with this myself for a while. I'm considering asking for a period of unpaid leave or an external secondment, both technically allowed in my organisation.

I am similar in that I have been at the same place for over 20 years and need to make a move. I should be finishing an extra qualification in the next week or so and will then need to get my cv out there.

I think I am using the prospect of a redundancy payment as an excuse not to move, but seems unlikely I’m going to be in a position to get this. It would be a significant sum though so I don’t necessarily want to just walk away. But equally I shouldn’t be wishing away my life like this! Firstly it was the pension scheme that was making me stay, that has now changed, bonus payment now due next month, flexible working - now thinking I should bite the bullet on this 4 days- less of an issue now children are older). I guess the moral of this is that there will always be an excuse NOT to move!

Op just start looking, apply fir stuff that looks interesting and go from there. Then it’s just a case of seeing which comes along first- a job that is exciting enough to make the leap, or that redundancy payout. You don’t need to settle for just any job, enjoy sniffing around!
