Hi there I started a trial shift a few days ago however unfortunately the boss has decided I'm not best fit, I worked 9 hours straight with no lunch break on the trial shift am I entitled to the pay for the work I did? In previous email before I started he stated it was a paid trial shift, but now is refusing to reply to my emails, what is the best solution?

Good it's in writing. Is there a payroll dept you can talk to?

You are entitled to be paid , end of.
This same thing happened to me about 20 odd years ago, I had a friend who worked for Citizens advice bureau, he told me exactly how to word the letter, with threats of something or other, I can’t remember now, not helpful I know!
Next thing they are ringing me to collect my wages!

I'm not sure if there is a payroll department, the business was super small so honestly I wouldn't know, I believe it was naive of me to not wonder if he required any bank details of me but I still believe I am entitled to the money, I wouldn't usually kick up a fuss for £90 but I'm a broke student, and cost me a lot in petrol to go up there multiple times and I don't believe in slave labour as it was a long day with no breaks, I have wrote a Stern email and If nothing comes of that will send a formal letter, if nothing from that I believe it can go to small claims court.

Unpaid trial shift

Small claims court seems a good idea, hope it does not come to that.

If it is a public facing role, then standing outside the place with a few leaflets to hand out explaining why you are there, to hand to customers, might make them act a bit quicker.
