Do I need a fit note?

Does anyone know if I need one, advice please?

Work part-time 2 days a week been off work for the last 3 weeks with bad flu.

1st day - called in sick
2nd day - called in sick
3rd day - son was sick
4th day - planned unpaid strike day
5th day - called in sick
6th day - called in sick

Have you been asked for one?

If all your sick days were for the same illness then yes you need one. Regardless of what days you work sickness absence is counted in consecutive days from the first day of absence.

Did you call in sick when your son was sick?

If it’s the same illness then yes.

Even if it isn’t your workplace may require one.

How many periods of illness is this? It looks like
week 1 - flu.
week 2 - you took unpaid leave for two different reasons.
week 3 - another separate period of sickness absence for flu

In thar case you self certify for weeks 1+3 but it is recorded as two separate sickness absences which may cause you issues depending on HR policy.

If you actually just stayed off sick from week 1 with flu then you need a fit note to cover the whole period but it would also be paid as sick leave (assuming you get sick leave)

You need a fit note if you've been off more than 7 days in a row including any non working days.

If you're going to be off day 8 you need a fit note. If you return to work for day 7 or 8 you don't need one.
