Resigning job whilst on mat leave

Hi I've been googling and can't find the answer to this question anywhere so hoping someone on here knows the answer! I am on SMP and planned to return to work after 35 weeks of mat leave. However I have just been offered a new job which I'm going to take. What I need to know is if I hand my notice in now, and my notice period is 8 weeks, but I am going to start my new job in 15 weeks time (so 7 weeks after I have left my old job) does my old job still pay SMP in the interim even though I am no longer working for them? I realise that I wouldn't accrue any holidays in that time. Thanks

You would get smp until you start working, from your current employer. Give notice 8 weeks prior to your new job start date.

You only get SMP for max 39 weeks after which you get zero . How many week's maternity would you have had (ie how long ago would you have started maternity leave) by the time you hand-in your notice?

Agree with @LIZS

Don't give notice until 8 weeks prior to starting. Why short-change yourself accrued holiday and pension?
