Notice period - is it possible to negotiate a reduction?

I've recently returned to work from a f/t senior position to a p/t much more junior role. In my old job I was on a 3 month notice period and they want to retain this. The thing is I'm pretty unhappy and am quite likely to resign, I can't bear the thought of having to work out 3 months, should I try to negotiate a reduction (I still haven't signed the changes to my t&cs)?

You could ask, no harm in that. If other roles similar level to your new role are shorter notice periods you have a good argument.

Or you could ask when you resign if they will let you go a bit early.

Or you could just not work your notice period when you resign - there's virtually nothing they can do about that, only thing to consider there is a good reference.

No harm in asking, my friend just did and to her shock they said she could leave at the end of the month!
Good luck, I've been there before, working out notice can be awful!
