Hi All,

Since having my baby, I have returned to work part time and a new person has been taken on for my old role. Trouble is I am still getting the workload and treated as if I in my old role.

My mental health is suffering and am I feeling I need to move on but would need to take a big salary drop to leave. Anyone else been in a similar situation? What did you do and how did it work out?

Advise and experiences greatly appreciated!

I have had similar situations in part time roles generally and I think it's hard when you go from full to part time in the same team. Is the role the same just part time?

I would try:

  1. spend a bit of time scoping out the work you have and approximate hours spent on each task so you can identify what you can reasonably do
  2. speak to your line manager, present your calculations and agree what you can pass off to someone else and what you should retain
  3. remind people giving you work 'now I'm in a part time role this isn't possible/ there will be a delay/ we need to agree through line manager on priorities

Thanks for the advise @crew2022

I definitely need to start beening more firm in relation to saying certain tasks are no longer possible for me due to time and the change in roles. I think alot of it is I have been in the old role along time and it's trust and comfort for the bosses, as its a SME.

Are you still part time or have you ended up going back to full time?

I'm four days a week now, slight reduction in contracted hours plus some longer days give me a whole day off.
