First round interview day before operation. How to approach?
ConfusedGin · 03/02/2023 19:24
I've been called for a job interview and due to the number of candidates they are scheduling first round interviews. I've arranged a time, but the interviews are all taking place the day before an operation.
My gut is telling me that I should flag this with them early, but I don't want to seem presumptuous about my chances of progressing. Nor do I want to put them off considering me - it's a major op and I'd be on strong pain killers for a while after so it's possible that I'd hold up the recruitment process and they'd risk losing another candidate in that period.
Any tips on how to approach it?

I don't think I'd say anything. Recruitment can take ages and if there are that many people to split into rounds it will probably take a while to whittle down candidates from round 1 for round 2. Depends how long you're talking for recovery and be fit to attend a potential round 2 really.

I'd be tempted just to go with the flow and not mention it. The first interview is before the op anyway, so it won't affect it. The way things are at the moment, so many surgeries get cancelled it doesn't seem worth rearranging an interview just for the op to be moved. Once you're through, you can rearrange any future interviews if needed. Obvs depending on the surgery it might actually give you some time to prepare if you're at home recovering rather than working.

Funny you should mention that @Maryandherlamb - this op has been cancelled multiple times already so it's definitely in my mind!
I wouldn't be returning to work for at least 4 weeks @Muddydogpawprints so whilst it gives me lots of time to prep, I also worry that I might be too out of it to make a good go at it. But of course that's something that I could discuss with them if they want to see me again...
My chronic honesty strikes again
