Civil service -references

Yesterday I was offered a job I thought I had no chance of getting because I thought I had royally messed up my strength based interview. Its an AO role within the MOJ.

I've completed my pre-employment information and submitted that. My question is, does submitting the online form send a reference request to my current employer automatically, or will I have some time to speak to my manager first? I'm not back in work until Tuesday and I want to tell her before she finds out.

It's for BPSS if rhay makes a difference.

Given how slow civil service recruitment is I am pretty sure you'll be fine, don't hand your notice in yet though, onboarding can take a while.

I won't, I know I might be in for the long haul!

Hi @TravellingSpoon i was just wondering how long onboarding took for you in the end? I’ve just accepted a role in the civil service and want to know what to expect!

It took a day less than 5 weeks,and a further week for my contract. I start at the end of April.

My CS job referees were never contacted for BPSS. And it took months to get a contract. You've got time!

@Greentopk if BPSS hopefully not too long, if you need security clearance of some kind it'll take longer.

Thanks @TravellingSpoon was it during that 5 weeks that they contacted your references? If they even do, as it sounds like they don’t always!

@owiz I think it’ll just be BPSS but I haven’t even been sent anything to fill in yet! That should be sent to me next week 🤞

They did contact my references and my counter signatory, and yes, it was in that time.
