Boss has completed my objective a week later

Had my annual performance review a week ago and discussed promotion. My boss suggested a specific objective which would help towards promotion evidence. It was to create a type of business system.

This week there was some conversation with a new team member who he seems to feel threatened by. They said they had a similar system in previous employment and I asked if they could share an example. A few hours after that call, My boss shared his own version he'd put together. He has brilliant skills in this area so he did a great job in quick turnaround. My gut is that he wanted one up on the new joiner.

Am i being too soft to feel so disappointed that he's done this?

I want to raise it and was thinking I would email something like.

'From my performance review last week, my understanding was that this was my objective for 2023 which would help build evidence towards promotion.

....and then I'm not sure what to say next?

I'm absolutely committed to progressing in the role and going for promotion, so please could we meet to agree a new objective to help with that?

Wasn't he just sharing an example like the colleague was? And it is still your objective to make your own and implement it?

I was wondering whether you had any ideas yet of a replacement objective for my performance review? I am keen for it to be something that I can research independently. Ideally it would be connected with x, which I have been doing y about.

@Hillrunning it was created specifically to the business need so not an example

@fivetriangulartrees thank you, I think that's a good way to put it
