Ok, I know there have been loads of stuff on here about bookkeeping, but just wondered if its possible to get off the ground without any prior experience in the business.

I've had a look at the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and can see the career route. I've also done a basic bookkeeping course and quite enjoyed it.

Just wondering what the odds are, if I apply to sit the exams, of obtaining work on a self-employed basis.

I'm 35yrs old, have degrees in English/Business but have not worked in this area before.

Please inspire me!!!

You probably can do it but your clients might want references/evidence of past work and if you haven't got any they might go elsewhere.
