I cannot believe I am posting this!
As some of you my recognise from my user name. I spent months and months umming and arring about leaving my previous role as Team Manager in social Work Team after 20 years front line. I've now started as DSL in a private school 3 days a week and I'm BORED. It's been 3 weeks.... please knock some sense into me......

Why are you bored?

KnickerlessParsons · 17/01/2023 13:20

Who allocates you your work? Or do you need to go and find work for yourself?
Have you spoken to your manager? Why did they think the job warranted 3 days a week? Perhaps the previous incumbent was taking the mick about the amount of work to do.
Can you offer to help people with stuff outside of your immediate remit?

Is the work itself boring or is there not enough of it?

Yes all of this.

The current DSL has oversight of 4 campuses and everyone keeps going to her as she hasn't set up a proper induction for me.

I've had to reach out to IT/HR to request they set me up and ask about online courses for my job. I've had to book my own DSL training with the Local Authority. Its a bit weird.

You have to embrace the downtime at the start of a new job, Rome wasn't built in a day but as you find your feet you will forge the role and I am sure there's plenty to do.
