I am seeking recommendations for a good desk and chair for when I'm working from home. I'm UK based. Any suggestions?

The huge IKEA desktops that you can configure with whatever of their legs you want. Can be so cheap, then spend much more on a chair. I love love love my IKEA desk and loathe my chair!

I've got an old oak campaign desk that I've had for years. Old furniture is often really good value and solid.
I hate my chair though which is an Ikea Langjfall. I must replace it as I find it really uncomfortable.

Do IKEA do the desks that can go and and down for sitting or standing? I'm looking for something that I can get a lot of use out of for many years, so if it's a bit more expensive than IKEA, I can live with that. I'd like it to look stylish, but also be the right height to sit comfortably at. I am finding the desk harder to find than the chair. Is there such a thing as an ergonomic desk?!

Budget?
Budget is not endless, but for a good desk I'd be willing to pay cica £250, or even a bit more. My fear is I've had IKEA furniture before and found the quality isn't great. I'm looking for a really good quality home desk...

My desk is from freecycle, it was originally from ikea, and its great quality. One day I will splurge on a Herman Miller chair.

Hw much space do you need?
When I worked from home, I used a ladder desk from the Futon Company a bit like this:
www.futoncompany.co.uk/shop-by-product/furniture/leaning-ladder-storage/oak-leaning-ladder-desk.html
I bought a similar chair to this from Amazon which tucked under the desk when not in use.
www.amazon.co.uk/Charles-Jacobs-Dining-Office-Swivel/dp/B088ZQN7WJ/ref=cs_sr_dp_5?crid=3KEOA917STPAU&%3Bkeywords=desk%20chair&%3Bqid=1673784684&%3Bsprefix=desk%20ch%2Caps%2C134&%3Bsr=8-33&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21
The desk had enough room for a mid-sized screen.

I upgraded to the might like this at John Lewis: www.johnlewis.com/humanscale-diffrient-world-task-office-chair/p4127139?s_share=jlappdroid Humanscale Diffrient World about a year ago and really recommend it. Expensive but i no longer have lower back pain and it is really comfortable.

Desk was about 40 quid from Ikea. Grey top with white legs.
I'd invest more in a chair - mine was bought by work for me from their supplier but think it goes for around £150.
I also got a few bits and bobs like a monitor riser, wrist rest etc

I have an ikea desk, bought last year
Trestle legs and top - allows me to adjust height) if I want to (occasionally need change in height for certain tasks)
they do a standing desk but don't know what it's like
My chair is from back in action www.backinaction.co.uk
And was very expensive but I've had it 25yrs now so it's been worth every penny as I have severe RA and is still as good as new.

I have a Herman Miller chair, and I love it. I got it from a second hand office supplies store, so it cost roughly the same as a new bog standard desk chair. With so many companies scaling back on office space, it might be worth trying to find a local office clearance place near to you, as you can get some great professional pieces for Argos/IKEA prices.

My ikea desk and chair are brilliant, iirc the desk was £100 and the chair £200
ImBlueDab · 15/01/2023 12:54
I bought my seat and chair from ikea 7 years ago and they are still going strong

Update for those interested. I just bought this sit to stand desk: flexispot.co.uk
It's an investment in my back health. It hasn't arrived yet, and I'm dreading the self assembly! But if anyone wants to know how I get on once it arrives, let me know.
Now to find the perfect seat to support my back...
