I had a great job last year, remote working, great team, brilliant work life balance, good money. Then I was made redundant and had to find something quickly…which thankfully I did but it’s perhaps not what I would have chosen had I been carefully considering my next career move. The new role is good experience and is providing me with some great career opportunities BUT….it is also a £5k drop in money and is much more responsibility than my previous job not to mention I also have travel expenses equating to about £230 a month. It is long hours and about 50mins commute each way each day so I’m out of pocket £500-£600 a month. I get one day a week to work from home but the other days I leave the house about 7:30am and I get home at 6:30pm and I’m just exhausted.
its only been 9 weeks since I started my role but it’s not really for me. The whole package isn’t great but the experience really is good. I’ve started thinking about finding something more suitable.
I think even if I could do two days a week at home it would help. But wondered if asking for two days at home so soon is cheeky, considering the company policy is one max…and is it too early to start looking for other jobs? My head is a bit all over the place. I mean, I enjoy it, the people are so lovely, but the work life balance is non existent and it’s affecting my physical health and also my sport, I’m unable to get to the gym and team training as I’m just so knackered.
what would other people do?
