Holiday leave year query

Hi there,

If a company's normal annual leave year runs from say 1st Sept to 31st August, and I start half way through, say 1st May and I accrue holiday in my first year which means my first year would finish on 30th April, does 1st May to 30th Apil then effectively become my annual leave year rather than the company's 1st Sept to 31st August?

Thanks

No. Your first year’s leave will be pro-rated, then you will start a new leave year on Sept 1.

No - your holiday is pro rata'd for 1 May to 31 August, then you get a full year for 1 Sep-31 Aug. So you should get a third of the annual entitlement in those first 4 months.

You'd have pro rata holidays from May until August and then the full leave year would start from the next August

Eg say you are entitled to 20 days a year and start exactly half way through.

You will have 10 days to use before September 1, then get a new allowance of 20 starting from September.

No it will still be up to September, with allowance prorated according to your employment dates, at which point a full year's allowance would apply going forwards.

Thanks all... clarity is much appreciated.
