Shoes for working in a school

CurlyTop1980 · 06/01/2023 14:58

A very boring post.....

I've just started working in a school as DSL. Today was my first day
It's a huge private school with a campus comprising nursery through to boarders and a huge sports complex. I've walked 12,000 steps today just in half of the campus.

I wore low block heel ankle.boots and I can't feel my feet now....

What shoes look good and are comfortable?? Teachers any advice!!!

I really rate these so comfortable

CurlyTop1980 · 06/01/2023 15:02

Thanks Sketchers. Never thought of these... do you know if they do something with a slight heel? I find walking in flats really hard!😝

I just wear loafers. So comfy.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 06/01/2023 15:12

Look at the Skechers website & see the range. Then look elsewhere to get them cheaper.
I've worked as admin in primary schools for years & love my Skechers.

When I was recovering from plantar fasciitis I had a pair of hush puppy loafers for work and they were so comfortable, not completely flat either

I have these www.clarks.co.uk/c/Un-Loop/p/20312837 they might not be pretty but they're very comfy and I struggle to get shoes that fit me properly. I also know a couple of nurses that always wear them

CurlyTop1980 · 06/01/2023 18:40

Thanks for all your messages. I'll have a look!

Doc Marten boots - the soft leather ones. I've worn my current pair most days for the last 5 years and they are still looking great and keeping my feet happy. Nothing worse than sore feet and legs after a day standing up.

Tulipvase · 06/01/2023 18:49

I wear cons in the summer and boots with a low block heel in the winter.

Honper · 06/01/2023 18:50

Get ones with tasers on the ends.

Phineyj · 06/01/2023 18:51

Hotter! Last for ages.

I have these, recommended by nurse friends. They are so comfy

I have unloops too, so comfortable!

Most staff in my school wear chunky ankle boots in winter and white trainers in summer!

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 06/01/2023 21:51

Another vote for hotter - scroll past the white soles and velcro, there are some decent pairs! I wear their boots in winter and sandals in summer. Also toms if your school is okay with that!

CurlyTop1980 · 07/01/2023 09:27

Thanks all. Looks like I'm going to have to go shopping this afternoon ad I can't bear another day of walking on Monday like I did yesterday!

I wear all black vans hightops.

ShowOfHands · 07/01/2023 09:31

I mostly wear Doc Martens at work and then Merrell snow boots if icy and Merrell trail running shoes if there's an obligatory sports event I've been roped into.

CurlyTop1980 · 07/01/2023 09:34

I'm definitely going to have a look at Doc Martins Shoes and brogues.

I have funny feet that always slip pit of loafers and I get terrible blisters.... also thunking maybe platform boots too.

I wear Fly London boots. My current pair are on their third year and they are so comfy. They are ankle height but I’ve also got some mid calf which are great too. Some of them in the website are a bit ‘out there’ but there are some really good pairs x

I wear Doc Martens, I have various different styles and colours. Absolutely love them. I'll also wear smarter trainers in summer.

Rockbird · 07/01/2023 15:22

Docs definitely. Nearly everyone in my school wears them.

CurlyTop1980 · 08/01/2023 14:34

So I went to the shops today and OMG how hard is it to find comfortable and good looking shoes! I tried the sketchers on which were recommended on here but they were far too flat. I tried the clarks ones- but they were like walking on clouds but sorry not good to look at. I found some.brogues and some slip on patent ones
..... wish me luck & thanks for all your recommendations!

I wish we could wear Vans / Docs etc. Our trust has issued guidance that dictates we have to wear suits / tailored clothing and proper shoes - not great for doing 20k+ steps

DeadbeatYoda · 08/01/2023 19:20

I wear all-black vans.
