I had my kids young and therefore didn't establish a career before spending the last decade being primarily a stay at home mum. I've worked part time in retail, hospitality and most recently in healthcare and still haven't found my 'calling'.

My kids are now all 3+ and I'm at a point where I could start finding my career if I wanted to but I'm not sure where to start.

My husband is the main earner and has a job that has him traveling all over the UK and Europe so I'm still the main one responsible for school runs, house admin etc.

Has anyone else found a job that actually fits around your kids that you enjoy?

Start reading the ads on the recruitment sites until something jumps out at you that you really want to apply for. That's how I ended up in my new career, been at it 8 years now and worked my way up, more than doubled my salary in that time and nearly finished my masters. It takes a bit of time to build back up and I needed a bit of help from child minders to start with but if you find a career that supports development it's doable.

You need the Mature Study and Retraining board, here:

Sure to find something inspiring amongst the threads there.

Don't narrow your options to jobs that fit around the kids. Educate and train yourself for the career you'd like when they are older / have flown the nest. Look at the Open University if you don't already have a degree.
