Dreading returning to work

Anyone else absolutely dreading going back to work? I hate my job so much!

Dreading it. I'm not back until next week and that seems worse somehow. Wishing I had gone back for a day this week to get it over and done with.
Work related anxiety is off the charts.

OrangeBananaFish · 02/01/2023 09:10

I came on MN today to start a thread about my lack of finding a job I like. So I'm definitely in this dreading going back to work camp. I change my job every 2-3 years cos I always end up like this. I finished for Christmas on 23rd and the thought of knowing I have to go back has brought a cloud over my time off. What is wrong with me? Why can't I find a job that I like for more than a few years? I want to get into a job and stay there for years, well until I retire really. I'm only 43 so years to go yet. Also can't afford to take any time out and can't retrain as I have a (crappy) degree so can't get funding for the entry courses plus can't afford them myself. I really am stuck.

All this advice about getting a new job is helpful and it does work, but IME only for 6 months or so. I cried myself to sleep last night thinking about going back to work.

WeWereInParis · 02/01/2023 09:13

I'm going back on Wednesday after 8 months mat leave with DD2. I can't wait!!!

rc22 · 02/01/2023 09:25

I'm lucky and currently enjoy my job but haven't always. I still hate going back after christmas though. Getting up in the dark and cold is so difficult and there are no pretty christmas lights to cheer thinga up. Just such a miserable time of year.

Start looking for another job. Recently started a job that I actually like and didn’t know this feeling existed. I presumed everyone had Sunday night dread.
No harm in looking

Ansumpasty · 02/01/2023 09:32

What about looking in a completely different field? I found my current job at 11pm in bed, feeling work dread and crap about myself. It sounded interesting, but not something I was necessarily qualified for and I thought I had no chance of getting it.
I applied and got it and it’s improved all aspects of my life as the negativity I was feeling about my old job had a knock on effect in all areas.

Ansumpasty · 02/01/2023 09:33

@OrangeBananaFish sorry, that was for you and forgot to tag you

SirChenjins · 02/01/2023 09:35

I don’t hate my job but I’m dreading going back to the full time, manic work routine. I wfh 2 days a week which does help, but I’m so burnt out and don’t know how long I can keep going at this pace for 😢

Thanks, I am looking at jobs that are different to what I'm doing. Just not getting anywhere ATM

RedRobyn2021 · 02/01/2023 10:12

I'm due to be made redundant at the end of January, I am dreading going back. I've felt a lot of anxiety as I have been in my job for 10 years and I don't know what 2023 is going to look like.

Gunner1510 · 02/01/2023 10:36

Yep feeling totally deflated today! I hate the routine of Monday to Friday, my workplace is completely inflexible with hours and WFH despite me being told the role was flexi time (it is but my manager dictates the set hours the whole team has to work so don’t actually get to work flexi) and could occasionally WFH when I took the job. I’d love to WFH one day a week, just to break the week up if anything!

The job itself is not as it was sold and it’s not very challenging. I only switched into this role about 6 months ago and it’s been a mistake I think. I’m already looking for something else!!

GetOffTheRoof · 02/01/2023 10:49

Lots of you really need to reassess your jobs and work out what you might enjoy.....

I left the job that I loathed in 2020 and I have a job I really enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I'd happily sloth on the sofa for another month and continue to eat shite, but I'm definitely not suffering the dread of going back to a job I detest - I'm happy enough to be back there tomorrow.

Shite jobs that make you miserable aren't worth it. I spent too many hours sitting in my car steeling myself to get out and go into the old office. Never ever again.

kitcat15 · 02/01/2023 11:00

No…i would prefer not to be there.,but when I’m there I actually don’t mind it

Peckhaminn · 02/01/2023 11:04

Glad I'm not the only one feeling the same dread for tomorrow... I was looking for jobs until 4am this morning. Doesn't appear to be much out there, or is it just me?

This has been me every night. I find there's jobs but wages are on the lower end & full time in the office.

Yes there are low paid jobs that aren’t particularly family friendly or flexible.

Polarbearyfairy · 02/01/2023 18:34

I've still got another few days off. I'm dreading going back to work, it's been like a really bad soap opera for the last few months and I'm at the end of my tether with everyone. Two weeks away was not enough!

This time of year there's often a drought of decent jobs because it's Q4, once the new FY is in sight and budgets have been set is usually when options open up.

Can't wait!!

mildlydispeptic · 03/01/2023 07:00

Well, here goes. Good luck to everyone who's going in today.

NancyJoan · 03/01/2023 07:06

It’s hideous. I actually enjoy parts of my job, but it’s terribly stressful, and I’m not suited to it, but I get paid far more that I would anywhere else, so I feel very trapped. Every day feels like I’m going to get caught out.

Beachloveramy · 03/01/2023 07:09

Felt like that with an office job - had four months off mat leave last year and could not face going back to a workplace with all the "culture" but only paid statutory mat pay! 🙄

Text my old retail manager and went back - I'm now advisor level when I'd left as assistant manager a year before but honestly it doesn't matter, I swallowed my pride for s happier life!

JuneFromBethesda · 03/01/2023 17:09

Glad to find this thread, I’d been meaning to start one along these lines myself.

I started a new job 6 months ago and I’ve unhappy almost from day one. It’s been bliss these last two weeks not worrying about it. I’m loathe to start job-hunting again (not that I ever stopped really, I’ve been checking the job ads on and off almost since I started the job) but I’ve promised myself I won’t be in this job by this time next year.

I hope the first day back wasn’t too bad for you all, and here’s to happier times for all of us on 2023 …
