Should I be worried?

About one and a half years ago my organisation I work for said they were going to centralise all finance teams. The deadline for this came and went, they moved some small functions and it went really badly, so they paused to try and fix it but recently said they were going to restart.

I line manage 5 people and my line manager came in started to change my direct reports work spreadsheets etc without involving the workers. One of my workers had been employed 25 years, doing her role for 10 years but recently had a break down because of the changes which my manager made to her templates, work etc. They now required a much higher skill set than she had and she felt he had made it so she could no longer do her job and had no choice but to leave feeling embarrassed.

He's been taking key tasks from my role to, saying he just wants to tweek them to support his role and make his life easier. He has changed them significantly, handed them back, I was doing them but he's taken them off me again a number of months ago and making the excuse that he wants to hand them back but doesn't have the time to do so as he's now covering my direct reports role.

The day before breaking up for Xmas he calls a last minute meeting with me showing me two options for the future structure of our team. One of the structures shows a new line manager (same grade as me) will come in and take over line management of my entire team with a focus on customers, so they'll loose internal orders etc to another team. I will stay at my grade, same job title but now act more as a advisor/trustee to senior board and continue to do aspects of my role including the ones he has taken off me and apparently doesn't have time to return. The new aspect of the role are high level which were previously completed by the grade above me (this person left too) but they won't acknowledge this and say its what I should do at my grade and if I refused to then in not performing my duties.

Could they be eroding my role by taking key tasks off me but not having time to give them back? There's no guarantee that of I accept the changes they will give my tasks back.

Can they take my entire team of me, I'm worried they are trying to force my hand to leave too. Could this be seen as me being demoted?.

They have also said they recognise the role is big and I don't have a good support like other teams do. So could it be that they just splitting the role but adding in more of the work from the grade above too.

Amy advice would be greatly appreciated.
