childcare vouchers & tax credits

It's probably not the right topic but wasn't sure where to post it.

Please be really careful when claiming child care vouchers and tax creadits. I thought I was, I spoke to my HR, the tax credit office and the voucher provider. It appears they didn't know their A from their E. no surprises I hear you cry. I was told that I would be better off claiming the vouchers but as it turns out, I'm not!!!!! I'm actually about £1300 or more worse off net per month. A bit peeved but thankfully I don't/won't physically owe the tax credits office anything as childcare costs have gone up and earnings are lower than I estimated but still £100 per month is a lot to lose out on. You'd think someone would have known wouldn't you?

I say just be careful but even when you think you've checked every single thing in triplicate, they still get it wrong

I seem to recall reading that if claim help with childcare from tax credits then you shouldnt take the vouchers as it makes you worse off. The vouchers save you money if you pay your own childcare costs.

Your HR may not know much about tax credits to be fair but tax credits should have told you you would be worse off.

oh well, will have to write this one off, it's not like i've got to give it back but it is a bit gutting. At least I should get it in future.
