Has anyone accepted a job and then receive another offer?

Totally unsure what to do. I have 3 job offers, declined one as they email giving me tile to think. I then had two further interviews typically the same week. The 3rd job didn't get back to me when they said so thought I didn't get it, so I accepted the second job which I was happy with at the time but now the 3rd offer has come through. My friend had applied for the 3rd job and she has been told she didn't get it which is strange as I thought they would have contacted me first to see if I wanted it. I feel absolutely torn and stressed about the whole situation. Is it totally unprofessional to withdraw a job I've accepted or to refuse a job when they asked at the interview if I wanted it. Obviously I did at the time but they didn't get back to me when they said.

I did this recently. It happens, just pick the job thats right for you.

And your friend being declined is nothing to do with you, that will probably be because she isn't right for the job regardless of whether you accept or not

Yes, I did this a few years ago. I accepted the job offer from company A, signed the paperwork and set a joining date. Then company B, a direct competitor of A came up with a better offer, which I accepted.
I had to ring the hiring manager at A to deliver the bad news. I apologised but she was understandably furious and didn’t take it well. I don’t usually take any crap from anyone but on this occasion I had to eat humble pie and bite my tongue. Hard.

Happened to me last week. It's a horrible situation but you've got to do what's best for you. It was a difficult conversation but I never set out to waste anyone's time and was truly apologetic.

Did this five months ago, still not sure I made the right choice…I chose the one I’d already accepted

I had this recently and went for the job I wanted, and had to decline one I had already accepted which meant I needed to have some difficult conversations
Go with your gut and what's right for you, you need to be happy in your job

Happens all the time. Pick the one you want and apologise/decline the other. It’s you who is stuck with the decision.

Yes it happened to me, I went with the job i really wanted and declined the one Id previously accepted. 9 months on and I have no regrets, do the right thing for you

I did this on Monday. Recruiter really peed off with me and I felt crap. But, it's a better fit for me (I'm a contractor in IT) and works out that I can pay my increased energy and mortgage when my fixed term is up so I had to make the sensible decision.

As others have said, do what's right for you.

Did this recently too and went for the role I wanted after taking another.
The company I didn't go with were nothing but lovely and when I thought about it they were so right to be like that....
Why would they want someone working for them that wanted something else, you'd likely move again.
Some industries are small and you could end up working together again, being cross would definitely put you off in future.
And it shows you are true to yourself.

Don't worry and do the right thing for you...

Thank you everyone. Just need to think about which one I want now.

Yes, January 2020 I had to turn down a sales position at a crisp manufacturing company but went on to have 1 year's employment in admin at a lawn care company.

Never regretted the decision. I still believed I picked what would have been the right role for me at the time.

The crisp company said we don't give second chances, please don't approach us again (so I took it as bridges burnt) on the day, I braved phoning to tell them I wasn't accepting the job. I got the crisp company offer Thursday afternoon and the lawn care company job on the Friday afternoon to start both the very next following week so it was a hard weekend, but easier on the Monday after I'd made the call to the one I was turning down. I think I ended up more annoyed as it wasn't like I sat on the offer weeks before speaking up and if you are going to have second interviews before offering what do they expect.

^ agree. I got a job because chosen candidate stood them up, & sane situation in one I am interviewing for now .. it’s probably more common than we all realise
