Should I say I’m pregnant at job interview?

I have a job interview next week, I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant. I work for the NHS and this is a role at a different hospital. My current boss knows I am pregnant, I know that guidance says you need to tell your employer that you are pregnant before 20 weeks.

I’m wondering if I should tell the hiring manager that I’m pregnant during my interview? I’m obviously planning on telling them at some point, my friend said I should perhaps wait and see if they offer me the job and tell them if/when I accept. I’m not sure what the right thing to do is! I know that technically they wouldn’t be allowed to discriminate against me for being pregnant, but I’m worried that if I tell them during the interview and then they don’t offer me the job, I’ll be worried it was because of my pregnancy. I am definitely qualified for the job and have the skills and prior experience for it and it’s a role I’m really interested in. I would be gutted to miss out. I just don’t want to be dishonest!

Any advice welcome!

I wouldn't say anything. If you're good for the job then your pregnancy shouldn't matter, but we all know that's not how it works. Just tell them if and when you START the job. Presumably you'll be returning afterwards?

I guess part of it also depends on what role you're going for. If it's a role where you'll be the sole person carrying out that role then I suppose it creates more of an awkward situation as they'll have to frantically hire again before you go on maternity.

So yeah I don't know exactly what the RIGHT thing to do is, but if I was in your position, I wouldn't mention the pregnancy.

For maternity leave and pay you'd inform them by 25 weeks not 20 weeks. No I wouldn't disclose it at the interview

Definitely no need to say anything. You can be open about everything once you receive an offer.

Not if you want them to give you the job no. It shouldn't make a difference but it does.

Absolutely not. If it's the same trust, then you've already told your employer!

Keep schtum.

If you tell them, you will not get the job.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/09/2022 23:54

No!

Tell them once you’ve signed

If you tell them at interview, you won't be offered the job. Unfortunate, but sadly true. Say nothing.

Thank you for your advice everyone! I won’t tell them until after I’ve accepted the job (if they offer me it that is!) and hopefully they won’t be able to tell, I’ll have to try and find a bump-disguising outfit for my interview!
