Can I phone this company about potential job?

I had an interview for two different, but very similar posts, in the same section of a company. I did not get either job but was given very good feedback and told I was the second choice each time. After I was told I had not got the last job , I was told the manager for the section had been spoken to and that he said they may have jobs coming up and they may be able to offer me one of these without another interview. I was told he would call me Monday. He hasn't.

Is it okay for me to call him? Or would that be weird and should I just stay quiet?

I suppose I worry it is 'not the done thing' or would make me look a bit ' gis a job'. I suppose I could frame it as, ' I was told this, it is a possibility and what woudl the timescales be. I have an interview at another company next week, but I would much rather have work at the company I mention in the OP.
