Holiday Allowance Part-time

I'm getting confused with my part time allocation for holiday allowance. I appear to have worked it out differently to our HR person and I just wanted to check if they've got it right if anyone knows about holiday allowance rules.

They worked it out as:

Full time holiday allowance:33 days including Bank Holidays
+6 days allowance for working 12 years at company.
=39 days

Part-time (3 days): (39/5) × 3=23.4
-7 bank holiday days = 16.5 days

Full-time: I worked it out as 25 days (not including bank holidays= 15 days part-time (3 days per week)

  • 3.5 days (pro rata for 6 days loyalty) =18.5 days

I feel like I'm being penalised for working part-time and my working days falling over bank-holidays.

I might be wrong as it's making my head hurt a little but with the cost of childcare the extra days make all the difference.

It does work for bank holidays. She would just need to use some of her annual leave to cover the bank holidays that land on her working days. She could ask not to work Mondays and then would have more choice as to when to take her holidays

I don't quite follow however: I work part time 20 hrs a week over 4 day.
My days are not always the same. However my manager will always make any bank holidays my 'working day' on the rota so I'm paid as leave for them as they're part of my entitlement. Then I just work an other 3 days that week. I then had another 12 to book as and when I wanted.

How purpletoes describes it is basically how my employer does it.

in practice, on bank holidays I get paid a proportional rate. If I’m working 60% hours Overall, then the pay on a bank holiday is 60% of a day rate. I get it whether or not I would normally work that day. That works at our firm because we have flexible schedules and no one is particularly worried about every paycheck being identical. It’s just something we accept when we go part-time because we know it balances overall.

Your boss is not doing you a favour there!

I am a part time worker (three days a week) and I don’t work Monday. My leave allowance is calculated as 3/5 of the full time allowance of 33 (25+8BH) but then any BH that fall on my working days, like Good Friday are taken from my allowance. In effect it means that instead of being forced to use a days leave in a BH Monday as a FT worker would, I get to choose when to take days.

I'm a HR manager, if a full time employee has 39 days inclusive of banks and you work 3 days you have 23.5 days inclusive of banks.

So if a bank holiday falls on your shift pattern, you work it or you deduct the day from your 23.5.

Does that make sense?
