well... I moved here about six months ago from South Africa after leaving an abusive relationship of 20 plus years. That on its own has been a rude awakening and scary experience starting from two suitcases with a 12 year old.

Found a job and have been here 3 months. This morning I got hauled in by my Supervisor as there are rumors in the office. Bearing in mind, I am currently like a hermit stay at home, come to work etc., hardly speak to anyone at work. Haven't even met all staff yet. Anyway. I was apparently painting my nails at my desk. I nearly fell over and could not think what they were on about. LIGHTBULB... :) I have a bottle of cuticle oil on my desk that I pour into my hands when I have been to the loo in place of hand cream this is something I do at home too, not too sure how to handle this one.

They should give you 24 hours notice in writing of an initial meeting assuming its an investigation. You are entitled to representation. Make a written list with bullet points of all the questions you wish to ask.
Has someone made an official complaint? Or is it just based on "rumours "
unfortunately rumours don't count. They need solid facts , proof, witnesses etc.
Tbh it sounds like a pretty unpleasant place to work if you are being investigated because someone "thought they saw something "
Above all keep calm and don't get upset.
Good luck and let us know how I goes

Hi, HR here. None of this post is correct for an investigation meeting.

Sounds like a storm in a teacup. If the issue is that people think you waste time painting your nails, your Manager should have wrapped this up.

Don't panic, go to the meeting, take your oil, explain what you do and that's it's no different to using a moisturiser in the loo. Offer to take it with you to the ladies in future. Ask HR why you have been threatened with a disciplinary for using a moisturiser.

(honestly, I bet HR are wondering why the fuck they've been dragged into this)

@Promotionorno HR must wonder why they get dragged into things A LOT!
