I tried to contact various numbers for departments at the job centre and no one knows the answer, information online is not clear.

Can you be over age 25 to get a volunteering placement via work coach at job centre?
Do you need a reference for that volunteering placement?

Really appreciate your answers, feeling stressed.

What sort of volunteer? Many areas have Voluntary Services which are more dedicated to finding suitable placements in a variety of organisations. Some need references, some won't. Some will need DBS checks.

Any volunteering placement would be good but mostly in retail field. I have been self employed, looking for a volunteer placement that doesn’t require a reference, do you know which ones please?

It will be down to each organisation. Probably best to think about what role you would enjoy and most benefit from skillswise. I know adult education support roles did not use to need references but did interview and do DBS checks for example, nor library volunteers but hospital roles and outdoor activity including support for children/adults did. References are not usually as formal as for a paid role though, and usually personal rather than work based.

Retail is an area which probably would , due to cash-handling and stock.
