Any Civil Servants with experience of redundancy/redeployment?

Any experience of this anyone? I'm going through this at the moment, with 20 years in my current department. It's not going well so far, we've heard horror stories on the grapevine how badly treated other offices were in the same situation but of course, it's all hush hush. I am open to redeployment but the first role they have 'suggested ' for us to put in an expression of interest for is not a role I want for various reasons. I would never go for this job if I had a choice, it's just outside of my mobility clause and I'm also hoping something else will come up over the next few months that would be more suitable. I'm a little concerned about if they can force my hand to take on a role I don't want though. They seem to be very eager not to pay redundancy packages, and the whole approach feels unhelpful & a bit intimidating. Anybody been through this process with any advice?

They will be looking to redeploy as many people as possible.

Take control and be proactive looking for jobs on CS jobs, make it clear you are at risk of redundancy as this may give you priority. If you find a job you are much more in control than if you wait to be told what’s on offer. With 20 years experience and a level transfer you are a good candidate for jobs. Don’t rule out looking for promotion opportunities.

Ultimately, if they find a job that matches sufficiently they can transfer you rather than making you redundant. Talk to your TU.

Thank you for the response. I'mstarting to realise I do need to be more proactive and look for opportunities. I am willing to be redeployed as I say, but so far the jobs they are 'suggesting' are definitely not suitable, they would be a bit of a step backwards for me. CS jobs is on my to do list this week & will be signing up for all offered along the lines of brushing up on cv etc. Thanks again.

CS Jobs offer Redeployment Interview Scheme too; you choose the option when applying for roles. Ask your line manager who might be able to get information from HR.
