Anyone left a career in marketing?

I’ve been in marketing since uni (20 years) but increasingly feel it’s not for me. I haven’t kept up with the digital side and dislike the constant pressure to be innovative. I’m not a natural extrovert either so hate the fact people think marketers should be “visible” in the organisation.

if anyone has left a career in marketing, can you give me some inspiration for types of things I could do?

I’m very organised, good writing skills and an introvert so just want something that suits me. Would need to earn £45k plus ideally but could take a hit to upskill for a bit if needed.

Out of my uni friends who all started in marketing, two of us are still in it, one went into teaching and the other two are now working in NPD - one for a large insurance company and another for a pharmaceutical. They love it, and it’s quite far removed from their marketing days.

You could look to specialise in a certain area of it - copywriting maybe? Or move sideways in to PR?

Yes I left it 6 years ago and I've re-trained in a medical field. The best thing I've done.

I really struggled with how competitive it was, feeling I have to be an extrovert and creative. Felt exhausted most weeks.
I did really enjoy the marker research element and I sometimes I think maybe I should have stayed in that area?

Comms for a charity? Smaller ones are much slower paced. Freelance? Might take a while
to reach your salary though.
