Would it be bad to look for another job now or should I wait?

I'm currently working for a really nice company who are really flexible and I enjoy working for them but I'm on a 12 month contract covering maternity leave. I'm 6 months into my contract and I've applied for an internal role that is permanent and is more money but I have not heard back about my application yet. I had no intention of looking for another job outside the company until another few months, but I'm struggling on my salary and I've recently I've seen quite a few jobs that I feel like I can do and is more money and I'm contemplating if I should apply for other jobs now or wait for another few months so I'll be further on in my contract?

I did this 8 weeks into an 18 month contract! I felt awful but I was upfront with my manager and explained it was because I wanted job security and already knew I wanted to work for the company long term and didn’t know if these opportunities would come up again at the “right” time.

Thank you for replying CRBear 🙂 my manager is aware that I've applied for the internal role (they actually encouraged me to), but I feel bad about contemplating applying for roles outside of the company. You are definitely right, as I don't know when I these opportunities will come up again so if I don't get the internal role then I guess I'll have no choice but to start applying for jobs now

Do what's right for you! Honestly no matter how nice your employer is they'd have no loyalty to you if it came to it, you'd be mad to miss an opportunity out.of misplaced obligation
