Terrified of starting new job

In a few weeks I’ll be starting a new job it’s better hours than my current job and the pay is similar but I’m terrified about starting, I really struggle with change and whenever I try to do something different or new I hate it and usually give it up after a short time, I needed to find a new job as my current job was becoming very stressful and I couldn’t cope so I felt at the time getting a new job was the best thing to do but now I’m doubting myself and thinking of ridiculous excuses to maybe not start my new job in a few weeks time what do I do? I can’t make a new decision I’m useless.

It will feel different at first and then it will become the new normal and you will be fine.

I started a new job last November. I had been with my previous Company for 32 years. I felt terrified on that first day and almost felt as if I couldn’t go through with it. I did and it wasn’t quite as scary as I thought it was going to be. The people are lovely, Job is easier, office is nicer, the hours are less and I feel I have a much better work/life balance. I’m so pleased that I moved to a new job. I am sure you will feel the same. That first day I thought to myself what’s the worst that can happen? It’s a case of getting through it and each day it will get better as you get more familiar with what you’re doing. If I can do it after 32 years and I’m sure you can!

@Lozzerbmc do you have any tips on getting through the first few weeks? Did you find the change firing at first? How long did it take for it to feel ‘normal’?

@Rainydays55 To be honest I think it’s just a case of getting through those first few weeks and having the view of what’s the worst that can happen? I did find it really tiring. Dont forget people dont have massive expectations of you when new! I would say three months in started to feel normal and as if I knew what I was doing! I am so very glad I made the change!
