Choosing between 2 job offers

Hello,

I wondered if anyone had any advice about choosing between 2 offers?

I'm moving back into HR in higher education after a small venture into Nursing which I tried for 1.5 years as a student. I have a CIPD level 7 degree.

  1. Russell group university, huge HR team, friendly team, hybrid working. Lots of segregation in regards to tasks. Fixed term of 6 months. Felt excited about post.

2.Small University. Closer to home, very small friendly team, cover all areas of HR/L&D. Matched the salary for above institute to have me. Hybrid working. Wasn't going to accept post if offered as salary lower and didn't expect them to match.

I've already accepted Russel group post, but start date not until 24th Feb.

Scared to make the wrong choice! On top of it I'm a single parent and need to rebuild my confidence

I accepted the smaller uni post.

Even if I stay for a year just to get my foot back in the door, I will definitely apply to RG again. I'm keen to hit the ground running and progress but I've also got to consider my circumstances, even if thats a little frustrating. My children are 7&11 and its only us (and family dog). It's really important I have flexibility and as little stress as possible. So although perhaps not the best choice for career development, it probably works the best for now.

And my ex just sent me an awful texts berating me because he pays £320 a month! So in no way can I rely on anyone else, apart from my Mother occasionally.

@BobbleAlong I'm glad you came to a decision, it sounds like for 'right now' the smaller Uni is the right job. It'll also give you lots of valuable experience if you want to apply to RG Uni later on. Congratulations Thankson your new job!

@BobbleAlong why did he berate you? Don't let it take the shine off your new job
